CENTRAL JERSEY WOODWORKER’S ASSOCIATION FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

IMPORTANT CHANGE OF MEEETING DATE:

For the meeting this month and THIS MONTH ONLY, please note that we are meeting on FEBRUARY 20 rather than FEBRUARY 13 at the usual time (7:00PM) and usual place (Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro, NJ).  The change of meeting date is to accommodate the Church holding a reception after its Ash Wednesday services on February 13.

AGENDA FOR THE MEETING:

This time we have a unique set of speakers for the meeting.  Guess who, you ask?   Well, it’s THE MEMBERS, stupid!!!!

Once again your officers are delighted to present an “Open Mike Night” for the enjoyment and entertainment of the membership.  This is an excellent opportunity where all of us who come to the meeting regularly, and those who come for the first time, are invited (indeed if not required!!!) to make a short presentation on a topic of interest to the membership (such as pictures, drawing or a recollection of a favorite project, a brief discussion of a new and useful tool or a short presentation on any topic of perceived mutual interest to the membership.)  So this time, instead of being entertained at the meeting, let’s all plan on entertaining each other with a short (5 to 10 minute) presentation about what each of us finds interesting individually.

Speaking for myself, I have found the Open Mike Night meetings to be the most informative and enjoyable of all of the CJWA programs.  It’s a good chance for each of us to communicate our personal interests and socialize with our fellow members.  On behalf of your officers, as President (or Grand Poobah if you prefer), I plan on making this meeting among the most successful by encouraging each of you to pick some topic for presentation and attending the meeting.

RAFFLE AT THIS MEETING:

And this time, we mean it!!!  But seriously now, for the last several meetings the speaker has run over or been so interesting that the officers decided to pre-empt the raffle.  Well this meeting is when the chickens come home to roost!  We have several raffle items stored from the past meetings and we aim to get rid of them at this meeting.   So let’s all rally around and support your Club by bringing some spare item for the raffle.

DUES ARE DUE AND NEW MEMBERS:

This month, the annual dues of $25.00 are due.  Please see Larry Goldsmith at the meeting to settle up for this year’s dues.  Also, I know that this newsletter will go to at least one new member before the meeting.  So with a hearty welcome to that person, I encourage any and all of you to recruit new members by bringing them along to this meeting.  In addition, if anyone has a prospective member who would like to talk about the Club before attending a meeting, for more information have them contact: Matt Prusik (President) by e-mail at thewwl@optonline.net, 732-727-7005 (office) of John Aniano (Vice President) by e-mail at janiano@tycotelecom.com contact e-mail: Matt Prusik at 732-727-7005, e-mail:  thewwl@optonline.net  or John Aniano at 609-758-2422 (home).

A FEW WORDS FROM YOUR PRESIDENT:

It has been about a year since I took over as President from Carl Muhlhaussen.  And I want to say that among my most pleasant personal accomplishments during that time has been being your President.  As many of you know, I truly enjoy working with wood and I look forward to being instrumental in assuring that our Club continues to aid each of us in the pursuit of our collective hobby.  But in order to accomplish this task, myself and my fellow officers need the help, input and sweat equity from each of the members.  So as each of you are listening to the presentation on February 20, take a moment to ponder how each of you can add to the collective enjoyment of our membership by taking the big step of donating some time and energy to helping the Club continue to function as smoothly as it has in the past.

Toward this end, last April the Club visited the operations of the lumber wholesaler, Rex Lumber in Englishtown , NJ .  During that meeting, the owner, Mr. Ben Forester, made a gracious offer of allowing the Club to have access to kiln samples from Rex’s drying operations.  Well I saw Ben Forester the other day and he mentioned that this offer was still good.  So then, the question for presentation to the membership is for someone (or some people) to step forward, think about hope to coordinate the pick-up and distribution of this free material and to follow through by administering the program for the benefit of the membership.  If anyone needs some further information or details, please feel free to contact me.
