This meeting was opened by President Jeff Brown to a packed house. We had 2 new members with us.  A representative of Colwood wood burning tools gave a demo of their equipment. Delta, Porter Cable brought their  OmniJig and gave a demonstration cutting dovetails. Dave Peregmon presented us a very interesting lecture on drying wood. Dave is a Hand Therapist who runs a saw mill in the area of Pennsgrove.  Dave has been featured in Finewoodworker Magazine, last fall. He tells us the proper way of air drying wood, Stickering, stacking, sealing the ends to prevent checking and determining moisture content. View Dave's powerpoint at the right. Great Job Dave!   Stu Moore was the  shop of the month. Stu has more than 600 hand plans in his collection

The meeting was brought to order by Jeff Brown and we have 6 new members with us.  After discussing the up coming events,  Jeff presented his Craftsman Compucarve. This device looks like a cross between a delta planner and an HP Printer. Jeff carved a little sign board for young Zack Zwek.  Our shop of the month was presented by Steve Altman. Steve has been in wood working over 40 years and in his presentation he passed on a wealth of information about where to get tools or supplies and just life experience on woodworking, I couldn't write fast enough. Steve builds most unusual wood boxes. Check his website at www.myworkshop.com

This was our first Swap Meet and it  was a huge success. Many members brought unwanted tools to sell and we all found some treasurers. We will  do the swap meet again next year, so save your stuff. 
We had 6 new members with us this evening. A representative from Professional Tools Mfg Co.  Gave us a demonstration of the Work Sharp and the Drill Doctor. The club purchased a drill Dr. for the members us so bring you dull drills to any meeting.
Reservations are being taken for the Mario Rodriguez Work Shop on Federal Fan inlays May 18th, $25.00 a member $50 non member, includes 1 year membership. 
We are doing a spring fundraiser selling birdhouses at the Marlboro day festival. There is a need for members to help out with project. May 17th at the Marlboro Municipal building

The meeting was opened by Jeff with 6 new members present this evening. Up coming events are Mario Rodriguez May 18th 10-4pm and Marlboro Day May 17th, we'll be selling Bird Houses and Feeders 10m - 4pm we'll need lots of  help. The stack of wood competition was judged by Mike Zaslav and the winners were 1st place, Marc Gaertner's Woody, 2nd place Bob Masterson's Federal Mantle Clock and 3rd place Jeff Brown's Carrousel. Thanks to Mike for his time and expertise and very through judging. Photos to follow. Awards presented next month. Dave White was with us this night  to demonstrate the drill Doctor. Finally!

Jeff Brown opened the meeting for the first time as our new president.  Four new members were with us this evening. After discussing up coming events, Lee Alexander demonstrated turning a bowl on his mini Jet lathe. Lee turned the bowl with a captured ring on the outside. see the videos of the presentation. Jeff presented photos of a mystery tool for the members to guess the purpose. The tool was a grinding wheel dressing tool. A  reminder that  the Stacked wood competition will be judged next meeting.

Elections of officers were conducted. and a unanimous ballot was cast. Lee had a conflict and postponed  the turning demo to next meeting. The Stacked wood competition begins this night, Dave white created 20 bundles of various sizes and species, each bundle the same qty and sizes. Bundles were handed out for $10.00 each. Wood is still available.  Roger opened with a slide presentation about finishes ( Link below) and all the members jumped in with a very enlightening discussion of their favorite f finishing products and techniques. Ray Wendrzycki won the stumps two months in a row. Four members presented tips and two new members were present.  Dues are due for 2008 $25.00. Payable to the Treasurer Paul Weber

This meeting was our first Holiday Pot Luck Dinner meeting. It was a huge success. All the members each brought a special dish, dessert or beverage and attendance was maxed out. Roger welcomed everyone. Two new members were out this evening. Dave White was working late and postponed the Drill Doctor presentation. Matt Greco was our Key Note Speaker and gave a wonderful slide show of the furniture and architecture of Williamsburg Virginia from his visit last September. Matt also recently was commissioned to make several wall units for local residents. Matt explained the design process and some of the problems he had to overcome to produce these beautiful pieces of furniture.  Ray Wendrzycki won the stump the stumps and awarded Automatic Transmission fluid and wet & dry paper as a prize  The tip of the month came from John Steimetz, Use wet & Dry paper with Automatic transmission fluid to remove marks and stains from your cast iron tables. (What a coincidence!)

Meeting was opened by Roger to a packed room. We welcomed two new members.  Mr. James Rendi, of The Philadelphia Windsor Chair Shop was our guest speaker. Jim  explained what a true Windsor chair is, it's history and the differences  of a chair made in New England, Philadelphia or Rhode Island. He brought a large variety of both Antique and chairs he had made. He explained the construction, the types of woods used, steaming , boring, turning, splitting  the spokes and finishing. Jim carved out a seat before our  group, with a curved Adz, some curved coffin planes and a draw knife. he also,  had a book signing for his publication, "Traditional Philadelphia Windsor Chair Making" This was a very interesting lecture and demonstration. Jim makes chairs for sale and  has a school where he teaches Windsor Chair making The average chair sells for around a thousand dollars ....   Read More
Matt Prusik won the Stump the Stumps by accident and received a coping saw and some paddle bits as a prize. 
The Club officers explained their duties of their office in preparation of January elections.

We had two new members present. Member, Robert  Lafferty of BlackPoint Woodworking www.blackpointwoodworking.com  
spoke about his company, how he got started and the companies he worked for along the way. Robert discussed some of his more important pieces and the challenge of being a professional woodworker. Thanks to Robert for his time. Matt Greco was recognized with the sharpest chisel competition at the summer picnic. Matt used his home made sharpening jig to modify the scary sharpening method. http://woodstore.net/lofosh.html
Roger discussed the speakers and presentations on our agenda through April '08. Also the past Saturday fundraiser, at the Fall Forestry Festival which was a huge success Over 100  Birdhouses and Birdfeeders were sold that afternoon. Paul Weber won the Stump the Stumps competition

Open Mike Night:  Roger is on travel this week. Marc filled in seamlessly. Several new members were in attendance this evening. Matt Greco talked about the value of making small gifts from wood scraps, cutting boards and pull sticks. Paul Dzioba brought some of his antique special purpose wood planes, Plow, tongue and grove, and dado and gave a very good demonstration of each.  Marc took a weekend seminar with the Society of American Period Furniture makers over the summer and spoke of how impressed he was with the level of skill.

The CJWA Picnic was held at the new to be home of John Steinmetz and his family. John is building a beautiful home on the spacious property and has an amazing wood shop in the back yard. The members pitched in and each brought the fixing's  The traditional thinnest wood shaving  and sharpest chisel contests were the highlight of the evening.  Sir William Duffield brought a wonderful pot of Homemade baked Lima beans and is sharing the recipe with us.  Thanks to the Steinmetz family.

Roger gave a presentation on hand planes, sharpening irons the various steel composites and his recent class in New Hampshire at Garrett Hack's Shop. Also members brought in some awesome hand planes, thanks to Jerry and Steve.  Bob Masterson presented his Shop as the shop of the month  Bob Zweck spoke about his collection of hand planes as well as a very entertaining demonstration.

Jim Force of Force Machine, Rt 22, Union talked about his company. He brought some Festools, Circular Saw, Drills, the new Domino joiner and the latest technology in Panasonic Li-ion battery drills. Many thanks to Jim for his time and sharing his knowledge with us.

Club VP Marc Gaertner, gave a presentation on veneering: cutting, layout, taping, and gluing using the vacuum press. Roger started the "Stump the Stumps", where members tried to identify wood samples. Also, a short "Tip of the Month" feature was started. A new Group Photo was taken.

The 1st Annual CJWA Woodworking Competition was held. Last Spring, participants were given a small "wood pile" of various species and the resulting projects were judged at the January meeting. Prizes were awarded in 8 categories along with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Overall
